Aboriginal Advisory Council
The Aboriginal Advisory Council acts as an advisor to Homeward Trust Edmonton on matters relating to Aboriginal issues and projects by:
Providing awareness of the urban Aboriginal experience, knowledge, and cultural perspective to the advisory process. Ensuring Aboriginal focused projects benefit predominantly disadvantage, urban Aboriginal people. Encouraging innovative solutions to promote building organizational capacity within Aboriginal organizations, groups, and communities.
The AAC will review and provide input into all applications for funding which are focused on serving Aboriginal people(s). The Council also assists in the monitoring and evaluating changes in need and serves as a ‘sounding board’ for projects in the development stage.
Membership
The committee will consist of a minimum of five (5) community members plus Homeward Trust's Director of Aboriginal Relations and the Executive Director who will act as Chair of the committee. Quorum for the committee will be three (3) members plus the Chair. Members of the AAC will have experience and knowledge of the housing sector as well as social economic challenges and opportunities facing Aboriginal people Members of AAC will have experience and knowledge in the cultural traditions of Aboriginal people Members of AAC will act as ambassadors to promote Homeward Trust Edmonton and encourage the development of new partnerships and invigorate existing ones, thereby encouraging sustainability Members will be appointed for 2 years
