Toque Tuesday Helps Put a Cap on Homelessness

It’s definitely brass-monkey weather in Edmonton and that means it’s toque time across Canada. The Edmonton Housing Trust Fund, the Edmonton Joint Planning Committee on Housing and Raising the Roof, Canada’s only national charity dedicated to long-term solutions to end homelessness, are doing their part to keep Edmontonians warm on Toque Tuesday, February 5, 2008.
The annual Raising the Roof Toque Campaign gives people from all walks of life the opportunity to show their support for solutions to homelessness by purchasing a Raising the Roof toque and wearing it proudly. The Edmonton Housing Trust Fund is the beneficiary of the funds raised in Edmonton and uses the money to fund homelessness prevention initiatives in the city. This year a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Family Shelter Network.
“This is an awesome campaign that directly supports homeless people and helps to create immense awareness surrounding homelessness issues,” said Susan McGee, Executive Director of the Trust Fund and Joint Planning. “We are so proud to be a partner agency and lend a helping hand to Edmonton’s most vulnerable citizens,” she added.
During Toque Tuesday, toques will be for sale for a minimum donation of $10 at a number of venues this year. They include:
