For Immediate Release EDMONTON MARKS NATIONAL HOUSING DAY WITH THIRD ANNUAL BREAKFAST CELEBRATION
EDMONTON, November 21, 2008 – The 3rd Annual National Housing Day Breakfast, co - hosted by Homeward Trust Edmonton and CMHC, took place on Friday November 21st at 7:30 am at the Westin Edmonton.
The event celebrated innovation in affordable housing and achievements towards ending homelessness in the capital region.
“National Housing Day is not only an opportunity to learn about new approaches to housing, but also a day to recognize the progress that is being made to implement affordable housing solutions and to celebrate the accomplishments of the many individuals and groups working together“, says The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and the Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. “The Government of Canada is committed to helping Canadians access affordable housing and will continue to work with the provinces, municipalities and charitable organizations to provide effective support in this area.”
“National Housing Day emphasizes that not everyone in our province has a place to call home. We believe that by working with Alberta’s communities, not-for-profits and industry, we can end homelessness as we know it today, and fulfill our vision of a province where all Albertans have access to safe, affordable housing”, says Yvonne Fritz, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of Alberta.
“We’re thrilled at co-hosting this event with CMHC, it’s a chance to celebrate our successes and showcase good practice” says Susan McGee, Executive Director, Homeward Trust Edmonton.
Rob Hislop, host of CityTV’s “Your City” is the Master of Ceremonies for the morning and other speakers include Yvonne Fritz, Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Cllr Ben Henderson, Bruce Bentley, President & CEO Maclab Enterprises, Sharon Matthews, VP Assisted Housing, CMHC and Susan McGee, Executive Director, Homeward Trust.
