Raising the Roof Campaign

TOQUE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3 2009

Once again, Homeward Trust will be organizing a local campaign to sell Toques in Edmonton. “Raising the Roof” is a registered, national charity dedicated to finding long-term solutions to the growing problem of homelessness in Canada. This year’s campaign is already underway and will wrap up at the end of March, with a special emphasis on the Downtown core on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009, called “Toque Tuesday”.

We would love it if you can be involved in the campaign and sell toques on our behalf. All proceeds from the campaign this year will go the Youth Emergency Shelter Society (www.yess.org). YESS provides shelter, food, advice and guidance to troubled and vulnerable teens. YESS serves more than a 1000 homeless and at risk youth a year and offers a variety of programs that help young people get back on the right track.

The more Toques you sell the more funds we are able to donate to YESS.

How we can help

We will provide you with posters, tent-cards and information flyers and of course, the Toques, which this year come is several stylish colours and designs. We ask for a minimum donation of $10 per toque.

How you can help

Where to sell the Toques:

In the workplace – in your common area or kitchen – advertise a time and date when you will sell the Toques. On that day set up a table with the Toques on display and provide information on the campaign. Encourage your colleagues to purchase a Toque or Two!
In your community – invite your neighbours and friends to purchase a Toque; encourage them to sell Toques to their friends and neighbours!
Outside your workplace – on Toque Tuesday, February 3rd 2009, sell Toques to passers-by; it’s a great way to meet people and to make them aware of homelessness issues.
You can either purchase toques from us and give them away or you can sell them on our behalf, whichever works for you – or you can do both!

If you are interested in supporting our local youth emergency shelter, then please do not hesitate to contact us. Our office will stay in touch with you periodically throughout the campaign and we will arrange to have sale proceeds and any unsold toques picked up at the end of February.
